국가유산청(청장 허민)은 오는 7월 대한민국 부산에서 개최되는 제48차 유네스코 세계유산위원회에 앞서 세계유산 분야의 미래 인재와 현장관리자를 대상으로 진행되는 「2026 세계유산 청년전문가 포럼(Young Professionals Forum)」과 「제8차 세계유산 현장관리자 포럼(Site Managers' Forum)」의 참가자 공개 모집을 시작한다.

청년전문가 포럼은 세계유산 관련 분야의 청년전문가 30명(국내 참가자 3명)을 선발하며, 현장관리자 포럼은 총 100명의 국내·외 현장관리자(각 세계유산별로 1명 이하, 국내 참가자는 국내 세계유산 개수만큼인 17명 선발 예정)를 선발한다.

청년전문가 포럼은 국가유산청, 유네스코한국위원회, 유네스코 세계유산센터가 공동 주관하며, 7월 13일부터 7월 21일까지 '세계유산, 공동체, 교육: 변화의 주체로서 청년 역량 강화'를 주제로 진행된다. 참가자들은 「창덕궁」, 「종묘」, 「수원화성」, 「경주역사유적지구」 등 대한민국의 세계유산을 탐방하고, 국내·외 전문가와 함께 하는 토의와 발표를 통해 세계유산의 보호와 지역 공동체 협력을 위한 정책을 제안하고 실천방안을 모색하며 차세대 글로벌 리더로서의 역량을 강화하게 된다.

현장관리자 포럼은 국가유산청, 국립문화유산연구원, 유네스코 세계유산센터, 국제문화유산보존복원연구센터(ICCROM, 이크롬), 국제자연보전연맹(IUCN, 아이유씨엔)이 공동 주관하며, 7월 16일부터 7월 23일까지 '연결과 소통: 세계유산 관리를 위한 참여적 접근'을 주제로 진행된다. 「반구천의 암각화」와 「가야고분군」 등 대한민국의 세계유산 관리 현장을 답사하고, 지속가능한 보존·관리 전략을 구상하는 국제적 논의*를 진행한다.

두 포럼이 동시에 열리는 7월 18일에는 각 포럼 참가자들이 다 같이 참가해 현장관리자들의 축적된 실무 경험과 청년전문가들의 창의적이고 혁신적인 아이디어를 공유하며 세계유산 관리 분야의 새로운 협력모델과 실질적인 발전방향을 모색하는 합동 분과(세션)도 마련된다. 또한 제48차 세계유산위원회 회의 본회의에서 선언문을 작성·발표할 기회를 갖게 되며, 이는 차세대 전문가와 현장관리자의 목소리를 국제사회에 직접 전달하는 뜻깊은 자리가 될 것이다.

참가를 희망하는 내·외국인은 기간(청년전문가 포럼: 2.23.~3.15, 현장관리자 포럼: 2.23.~3.22.) 내에 유네스코 세계유산센터 누리집을 통해 온라인 신청서를 제출하면 되며, 최종 발표는 4월 말 전자 우편을 통해 개별 통보될 예정이다. 역량 있는 세계유산 분야 청년전문가와 세계유산 현장관리자들의 적극적인 참여를 기대한다.

국가유산청은 이번 제48차 세계유산위원회 개최와 두 포럼의 운영을 계기로 국제사회와의 협력을 더욱 공고히 하고, 세계유산의 지속가능한 보호와 미래세대 역량 강화를 위한 글로벌 플랫폼으로서의 역할을 충실히 수행해 나갈 계획이다.

The Korea Heritage Service (Administrator Huh Min) has issued a call for applications to participate in two forums to be held in conjunction with the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee. The 48th session of the World Heritage Committee is hosted by the Republic of Korea in Busan this coming July. The two forums are the Young Professionals' Forum 2026 and the 8th Site Managers' Forum.

Thirty young people with academic backgrounds related to heritage, including three domestic applicants, will be selected to participate in the Young Professionals' Forum, while 100 on-site heritage professionals (including 17 domestic applicants) will be chosen for the Site Managers' Forum. The number of participants from a single World Heritage site is limited to one.

Organized by the Korea Heritage Service, Korean National Commission for UNESCO, and UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the Young Professionals' Forum will be held from July 13 to 21, 2026 with the theme "World Heritage, Communities, and Education: Empowering Youth as Agents of Change." Rising heritage professionals from across the globe will engage in conversations with experts from South Korea and elsewhere, deliver presentations on their own ideas, and make field visits to local World Heritage sites such as Changdeokgung Palace, Jongmyo Shrine, Hwaseong Fortress, and the Gyeongju Historic Areas. The forum will offer an avenue for the participants to enhance their capacity as heritage experts, as they explore policy measures and on-site practices for the conservation of World Heritage sites.

The Site Managers' Forum is jointly organized by the Korea Heritage Service, National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, UNESCO World Heritage Centre and two advisory bodies to the World Heritage Committee: the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). To be held from July 16 to 23, 2026, the Site Managers' Forum will focus on the theme "Connection and Communication: Participatory Approaches to Managing World Heritage." This is further organized into five sub-themes: the sustainable management of World Heritage through inclusive people-centered approaches, integrated governance of World Heritage properties, decision-making based on research and data, coordinated risk management for heritage and people, and communicating and nurturing heritage values for revitalizing local communities. World Heritage site managers participating in the forum will visit the two most recently inscribed World Heritage sites in South Korea: the Gaya Tumuli and Petroglyphs along the Bangucheon Stream. These field trips will be combined with discussions on strategies for sustainable conservation and management.

The participating young professionals and site managers represent two key groups of stakeholders in World Heritage conservation and will be brought together for a joint discussion session. Significant synergy is expected when the hands-on experience brought by the site managers meets the creative and innovative ideas of the young professionals. This joint session is expected to produce meaningful contributions to new models for cooperation and to generating effective solutions for the issues at hand.

In addition, the two groups of World Heritage stakeholders will respectively produce a declaration as part of the results of their forum and present it at the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee. It will provide a golden opportunity for the young professionals and site managers to deliver their messages directly to the representatives of State Parties and heritage authorities from across the world.

The call for participation in the two forums went out on February 23 and will remain open until March 15 for the Young Professionals' Forum and until March 22 for the Site Managers' Forum. All young professionals and site managers interested in this capacity-building opportunity are encouraged to send in an application, which can be submitted through an online link on the website of the World Heritage Centre and those of other relevant organizations.

The Korea Heritage Service will spare no efforts in preparing for the two forums and for the World Heritage Committee session. It will ensure that these occasions will be used to strengthen global cooperation regarding World Heritage and fulfill its responsibility for supporting sustainable heritage conservation and boosting capacity-building endeavors for the future.
