국가유산청 국립문화유산연구원(원장 임종덕, 이하 '연구원')은 3월 4일부터 4월 17일까지 '국제 문화유산 보존기술 연수(ICPC)' 참가자를 연구원 누리집을 통해 모집한다.

이번 ICPC는 연구원이 2005년부터 아시아권을 중심으로 운영해 온 '문화유산 보존과학 전문가 역량 강화 프로그램(ACPCS)'의 참가자 범위를 전 세계로 확대하여 올해부터 처음 선보이는 것이다. 연구원의 전문 분야인 ▲ 고고 ▲ 미술 ▲ 건축 ▲ 안전방재 ▲ 보존과학 ▲ 디지털 분야 중 5명 내외로 최종 연수자를 선정하며, 선발된 연수자는 8월 3일부터 10월 1일까지 60일간 연구원 담당자들과 함께 개인별 연구주제에 관한 이론과 실습을 병행하는 '멘토-멘티 시스템'을 기반으로 참여하게 된다. 이번 사업을 통해 전 세계 문화유산 보존 전문가 간 상호 협력을 강화하고, K-헤리티지를 중심으로 한 국제 보존 협력 네트워크를 구축하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대된다.

참고로, 연구원은 ACPCS를 통해 지난 20년간 아시아권 19개국 120명의 연수자를 배출해 명실상부 국내 최장수 국제 문화유산 전문가 역량 강화 프로그램을 운영해 왔다. 지난해 ACPCS 20주년 기념식('25.8.5.)에서 임종덕 연구원장은 아프리카 및 작은 섬 개발도상국(Small Island Developing States, SIDS) 등을 비롯한 전 세계 다양한 국가의 전문가들이 자국의 문화유산 보존 현장에 K-헤리티지 기술과 가치를 적용할 수 있도록, 국제교류 확대 의지를 담은 중장기 비전을 발표했다. 그 결과로 'ICPC'를 선보이는 올해는 국제 문화유산 보존 협력의 새로운 전기를 마련하는 원년이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.
국가유산청 국립문화유산연구원은 앞으로 ICPC의 참여 인원과 연수 기간을 단계적으로 확대하는 한편, 유네스코 산하 이크롬(ICCROM)과 공동운영 중인 '콜아시아(CollAsia)', 교육과 연구원의 '아시아권 보존과학 현지기술교육(OTTP, On-site Technical Training Program)' 등 국제연수 프로그램을 고도화하여, 아시아를 넘어 전 세계 국가들과의 국제협력 체계를 공고히 하고, K-헤리티지를 중심으로 세계유산 보존을 선도하는 중추 기관으로서의 역할을 강화해 나갈 것이다.

The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (Director General Lim Jong-deock; hereafter, NRICH) will receive applications for the International Cooperation Program on Conservation (hereafter, ICPC*) from March 4 to April 17 through the NRICH website**. This year marks the inaugural launch of ICPC as a global program, expanding the former ACPCS*** capacity-building initiative, which has been implemented primarily for Asian countries since 2005. The transition is particularly meaningful as it represents a new chapter in international cooperation for cultural heritage conservation.

This ICPC is open to applicants in NRICH's principal areas of expertise, including archaeology, art, architecture, safety and disaster prevention, conservation science, and digital heritage. Approximately five trainees will be selected in early May and will subsequently participate in the training program, along with the necessary program-related support. The selected trainees will participate in research activities under the Mentor–Mentee System* from August 3 to October 1 for a 60-day period. The program holds great significance aimed at strengthening international collaboration among cultural heritage conservation professionals and fostering a global conservation network centered on K-Heritage.
*Mentor–Mentee System: Mentors will be assigned based on each trainee's individual research topic, combining theoretical instruction with practical training.

Over the past 20 years, the NRICH has implemented ACPCS, through which it has trained 120 participants from 19 Asian countries, establishing the program as Korea's longest-running international capacity-building initiative in the field of cultural heritage conservation. At the ACPCS 20th anniversary ceremony held last year, Director General Lim Jong-deock announced NRICH's mid- and long-term vision for international exchange: "To enhance the value of K-Heritage and contribute to the international community by diversifying international cooperation" The ICPC represents the first step in realizing this vision. Through ICPC, experts from a wide range of countries, including Africa and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), are expected to participate, directly experience Korea's cultural heritage, and further strengthen their conservation capabilities. The program is anticipated to provide a meaningful opportunity for participants to integrate K-Heritage technologies and values into their respective cultural heritage contexts.

Moving forward, the NRICH will progressively expand the number of ICPC participants and the duration of the training program. In addition, it will further enhance its international training initiatives, including CollAsia**, jointly implemented with ICCROM*, and OTTP***, in order to strengthen global cooperation frameworks extending beyond Asia. Through these efforts, the NRICH aims to reinforce its role as a leading institution contributing to the preservation of world heritage, with K-Heritage at its core.
